NAIVEDYAM: WILL GOD EAT OUR OFFERINGS?

Here is a very good explanation about Neivedyam to God. Will God come and eat our offerings? Many of us could not get proper explanation from our elders. An attempt is made here. A Guru-Shishya conversation: The sishya who doesn't believe in God, asked his Guru thus: "Does God accept our *'neivedhyam'*  (offerings)? If God eats away the *'prasadham'*  then from where can we distribute it to others? Does God really consume the 'prasadham', Guruji?" The Guru did not say anything. Instead, asked the student to prepare for classes. That day, the Guru was teaching his class about the 'upanishads'. He taught them the *'mantra'* : *"poornamadham,* *poornamidham,* *poornasya poornaadaaya...."* and explained that : *'every thing came out from "Poorna or Totality."* ( Ishavasya upanishad ). Later, Everyone was instructed to practice the mantra byheart. So all the boys started praciting. After a w

Four principles of spirituality apply to all

It is not important whether you believe in spirituality or not, the four principles of spirituality apply to all from the moment one is born and will remain there till the end! Four principles of spirituality... The First Principle states: "Whomsoever you encounter is the right one" This means that no one comes into our life by chance. Everyone who is around us, anyone with whom we interact, represents something, whether to teach us something or to help us improve a current situation. The Second Principle states: "Whatever happened is the only thing that could have happened" Nothing, absolutely nothing of that which we experienced could have been any other way. Not even in the least important detail. There is no "If only I had done that differently, then it would have been different". No. What happened is the only thing that could have taken place and must have taken place for us to learn our lesson in order to move forward. Every single situation

CHITTA CHORA KRISHNA

A Brahmin (Priest), whose profession was singing the glories of the Lord, was reciting Srimad Bhagavatam in the house of a Big Landlord. A thief broke into the house where the recital was going on and hid himself in the deep corner. Perforce, he had to listen to Srimad Bhagavatam (Beautiful stories & Miracles of Lord Krishna). The singer was now describing the ornaments worn by little Krishna. He described the various ornaments Mother Yasodha decorated on little Krishna before sending Him out with the cows. The thief was excited and thought that he should meet that lad and rob all the ornaments at one stroke instead of struggling every day with petty stealing. He waited till the entire chapter of Srimad was recited and left the place. The thief wanted to know where this boy was. He, therefore, followed the Brahmin and waylaid him. The Brahmin was frightened and feared that he would lose even the small amount he had received as dakshina and told the thief, “I do not have anyth

A Father, a Daughter and a Dog

A true story by Catherine Moore "Watch out! You nearly broad sided that car!" My father yelled at me. "Can't you do anything right?" Those words hurt worse than blows. I turned my head toward the elderly man in the seat beside me, daring me to challenge him. A lump rose in my throat as I averted my eyes. I wasn't prepared for another battle. "I saw the car, Dad . Please don't yell at me when I'm driving.." My voice was measured and steady, sounding far calmer than I really felt. Dad glared at me, then turned away and settled back. At home I left Dad in front of the television and went outside to collect my thoughts... dark, heavy clouds hung in the air with a promise of rain. The rumble of distant thunder seemed to echo my inner turmoil. What could I do about him? Dad had been a lumberjack in Washington and Oregon. He had enjoyed being outdoors and had reveled in pitting his strength against the forces of nature. He had entered g

the journey is so short

A young lady sat in a bus. At the next stop a loud and grumpy old lady came and sat by her. She squeezed into the seat and bumped her with her numerous bags. The person sitting on the other side of the young lady got upset, asked her why she did not speak up and say something. The young lady responded with a smile: "It is not necessary to be rude or argue over something so insignificant, the journey together is so short. I get off at the next stop." This response deserves to be written in golden letters: *"It is not necessary to argue over something so insignificant, our journey together is so short"* If each one of us realized that our time here is so short; that to darken it with quarrels, futile arguments, not forgiving others, discontentment and a fault finding attitude would be a waste of time and energy. Did someone break your heart? *Be calm, the journey is so short .* Did someone betray, bully, cheat or humiliate you? *Be calm, forgive, the journey i
